ESTABLISHING PREMISES -
The establishing presmises are a limited specialized assistance, as well as the lack of information and of a proper educating process for the parents of disabled children in Romania. The CRESC program offers stimulation, recovery, education and counseling services to both children and their families. The purpose of CRESC is to be an interaction catalyst between the psychomotor disabled child and their environment, to be a setting for personal and social skills development and to reinforce the personal and social autonomy of the child. The program also provides a nutritional support for the 30 beneficiaries. We wish our program to be a step forward regarding the services provided to psychomotor disabled children and their families. We consider CRESC to have the potential to be a preventive service to prolonged hospitalizations, to the child’s isolation, institutionalization or even abandonment. We provide the beneficiaries with fully prepared and specialized personnel regarding special education, recovery and counseling. The educational activities are being structured on four development areas which are: physical and/or motor; perceptive; intellectual; and personal/social development area. -
OBJECTIVES -
Early intervention towards children’s rehabilitation. -
Preventing the institutionalizing or abandonment of disabled children supported by counseling services. -
Further instructing the parents of disabled children on the specific needs of their child. -
Increasing the child’s capacity to communicate and to relate to the other children. -
ACTIONS TAKEN -
Early intervention through our specialized personnel: special needs teacher, speech therapist, physical therapist, special needs educator as well as social worker. -
Prevention of the institutionalizing or abandonment of the disabled child supported by the counseling services as well as through social and material support for his family. -
Reinforcement of interaction possibilities between children, and between children and adults as well as increasing the capacity to communicate and to relate to other children in the group. -
Creation of a “Support Group for Parents” where the parents are encouraged to share their experience with the other members. They are helped to acknowledge and to develop their child’s potential, to accept the limits of the disability and to plan the further steps of the treatment or therapy. -
RESULTS -
The project is meant to be without sexual, racial or religious discrimination. CRESC offers in priority to the needy families, the possibility of specialized free services for their children. -
Through the activities, the program opens the access to psychomotor handicapped children to specialized services. -
We hope to prevent the alienation of the child from his parents, like it is often the result of long recovery hospitalizations. -
The center is a place where the children can enjoy a stimulating recreative environment; they grow, develop and learn together surrounded by personnel who treat them in a way that they no longer feel patients, but children. -
The life quality of these children’s families is improved by the counseling, the information and the parents support activities. -
The project is an interaction catalyst to the child with special needs and the group; it helps in the social skills development and encourages personal and social autonomy of the children with psycho-motor disability. -
The most important expected result consists in the easing of the child’s handicap.
